DIY Inground pool - Day 6

Today started of right for everyone, grandpa woke up early and went to Dunkin Donuts as a nice early morning treat.  We fueled up, drank a bit of coffee and OJ then got to work.  Our focus today was plumbing, and working on the concrete equipment pad that is cured enough for what we are doing.  Thank goodness for my dad, who again is an engineer and can put this stuff together with a sous chef like me!

Thanks for coming to visit dad, the food was good, the company was great and the free labor was right where it needed to be I needed it!

Today started out a bit slow as we wanted to make sure we had everything we needed, fittings, tools, supplies, etc to get the job done.

I had bought the wrong sized hole drill so Megan kindly took the girls back to HD to exchange it and get few other parts we needed.

We came a hair from calling today off due to weather.  Some popups started forming north of us heading right at us, and it did rain a bit so we set up a tarp to cover the work space in case we got wet.  Ultimately the showers mostly dissipated and avoided us all day, allowing us to get as far as we did!

While dad was working on digging the trench just a bit further I went on and installed the return fittings in the pool, as well as the LED light housings in the pool.  Pro tip - Place the LED's on the long side of pool equally spaced, and on the side facing where you think you will be the most when the sun is down!  We upgraded lights to these LEDs that have a remote and can do different colors and light shows - super cool!

For lunch we had Brians leftover BBQ Sammies for lunch, what a nice treat!

The optimum light depth for these lights was slightly below the return head height.  Excited to see how it turns out!  I did have some rebar in the pool and Megan, acting as safety director, took pool noodles to secure them, reducing our chance of impalement!

Here are a few pics of the lines on the equipment pad, each one is different based on space and location, custom designed to give the best flow, walk around space and usability to function the filter, salt chlorinator and the valves that control returns and drains.

That last pic is a happy birthday pipe pic for Megan, I won't say what year she was born!!

All that is left for plumbing is to complete the runs for these lines, mostly straight pipe and 90s to the fittings in the pool, now we must wait for an electrician, that is the next step and I really can't do much more until they pass the first inspection.  Once that happens I can backfill, and clean the yard up a bit.  In the meantime, I might take a break and go back to real work for a few days this week!

Stay tuned!
