So again...today I needed to work real work... and this update is only about 1/2 days physical labor when we could find time... although it felt like much more. We needed to put in the walls and backfill for the tanning ledge and step, which is an addition to the standard package. Most people put in external polymer steps and that was not the look we were going for. Also, we had no direction on how to do this so my best guess is what we are going to get! LOL
Like I stated yesterday the tanning ledge wall had some kind of supernatural power that allowed its two perfectly 6' pieces to not fit into a >12' space. I still can't figure it out. My solution was to implement a turnbuckle support (planned for 4, only used 2) system, to anchor the walls to the already collard walls.
This was a major success and even after we backfilled it looked better by pushing or forcing the walls just a bit more vertical with the turnbuckles pulling back. Little note is that I should have also done this to the smaller wall, a bit of rework is going to have to happen to ensure it stays plumb.
Just to give you an idea of perspective this was >=4 yards of #57 gravel. Each yard weighing 1.4 tonnes, making the total gravel lift equal to 5.6 tonnes or 11,200 lbs. We had two shovels and 6 cu/ft wheelbarrow, we estimate we took >50 wheel barrow load trips filling in this tanning ledge, probably closer to 75.
To put that into perspective I Googled curb weights on cars and sure enough the heaviest production car today is a Rolls Royce Phantom coming in at 5,600 lbs. We lifted twice that today with two shovels...lol.
It was getting close to the end of the day and for some reason I could not figure out my ramp system, so on the last load I crashed, I was tired, made a damn mess in the same place I spilled concrete days before, I am jinxed in this location LOL.
I do want to call out again that Megan is a beast and yes, I know I dote on her often but my gawd, for every one shovel I scooped today she did 1-2. And guess what, she doesn't sweat...what gives??....I guess I sweat enough for the both of us, way to go babe you are supernatural and super fun to work with!
Stay tuned!
